I just got the June/July issue of TeenVogue (ha, yes I still read that..) and on page 90 it had a review of Snow Patrol's new album, mentioning Martha's duet with them.
My scanner is acting up, so I can't show the picture of it, but I'll type the review anyway:
"The lads in Snow Patrol get fancy on their fourth album, with a Celtic choir, strings and a thoughtful duet with Rufus's kid sister Martha Wainwright. Recorded in the rural expanses pf Dublin, Eyes Open effortlessly moves from sparse, intimate moments to gallant grandeur." |

I stopped quoting every Snow Patrol review that mentioned Martha!
but here's something interesting from the Independent
| Quote: | | This was an evening that lent fresh meaning to the term "intimate" - and, for that matter, "spontaneous". It made you feel like you'd been invited back to the Wainwright place (or the McGarrigle place) for Christmas to knock back a few egg-nogs as the family gathered around the fireside with banjos, mandolins and accordions. "Drink up!" Martha advised during one of rather too many interludes to tune her guitar. "It'll sound better like that." |

Thanks for the Martha pics!! Oh, yeah.
We're still waiting for the reviews/highlights, banter reports, etc..... *overdemanding fan*
I do love the concert shots, though the promo shots lately have been really good, too.
I'm glad some of them turned out Sergeja. How are you liking your new camera??
The shots you posted seemed pretty good.
Getting a fast enough shutter speed can be a trick to avoiding the 'blurs'. Doesn't seem like they're lighting concerts as 'hot' as they used to.
Three rutopians were there @ the London shows??? omg. Four?? Perhaps you all still remain awestruck. Or were so disappointed you can't say anything more??? *baits attendees* Dish, dear people. Dish.
After several 'nothing' posts/"reports? on the rwmb, klovis finally told us a bit about one of the shows. Geez...ya'll. We would love to read: What you liked. How'd getting there go for you? Did you talk to/meet anyone? What was the hall/sound like? How was Martha?.... What was said, done or hinted at, etc.
Martha's board has been dead or sleeping!! And all I've been able to glean is:
She's sounded good.
Playing the songs differently.
Doing some Wainwrightian 'group' shows.
Said she's 'in love'.
She's been opening up a bit about the 'depths' of touring with/for Rufus. Both pos and neg aspects of that. In true Wainwrightian therapeutic interview fashion....
Kate was both polite and feisty @ the shows. And at one point burst out with the question of why the Templar's tower was crooked. ha ha ha hah. Thank you, Jesse James!! So cool she's involving the family.
We love Martha!!!!
I've passed up on some Chris Still's shows recently because I haven't appreciated the songs or his vocal stylings when I've heard them recently.... ..... I'm missing something??? Or is he now just a pretty person??? I liked his accompaniment with Rufus years ago.
Agree Jane's shots of him are hot, but those @ the top of this page look creepy to me.
Seems I'm reminded of a L Cohen statement where he said that, for some reason, the French did not require their singers to have a good voice.
Regardless, to me- this thread belongs to:

With whom? Chris Stills?
I'm starting to like her music a little more.
We tried to book her into the Victoria Playhouse this summer, but she's playing a lot of festivals in the UK through August. |

Doubtful.
But until/unless she says with whom, it's all mere speculation. She has said she prefers more 'mature' men.
I was thinking Brad. Still. She's seemed very 'smitten' with him the couple of times I've seen them.
Here's the 'newsy' report that contained the salient info....

I didn't know it was going to be just her and was a little worried when the drums didn't turn up. But, dammit, can she handle the audience on her own (albeit with Kate's erudite interruptions: "Is that a gamma, or an r?" "And why is the templar tower crooked?")
The last two times I've seen her she spent so much time apologising for how bad she was and how rubbish her hair was looking, but there was none of that last night. She seemed to be in a really really good mood, and that affected the music too.
She was playing a lot of the songs quite differently. And said sorry for anyone who was looking at their album sleeve going, "Hm, this doesn't sound quite right..." But they were GREAT and maybe an indication of where she might go with the next album.
Highlight for me was the period converation! Hahahaha! Who else could get away with that?
And Dis Quand Reviendras-Tu, which was SUPREME.

Ace! It was my aunt who shouted "Are you in love, Martha?" and got that rather awkward blatently-yes reply.
And then it was my uncle who re-strung her guitar - and spent the rest of the evening grinning inanely.
My family clearly likes to feel involved. |
Bill Dubrow, Martha's drummer was playing in Teddy's band!!!
| art bristow wrote: | | Martha was F* brilliant tonight. I swear my pulse went through the roof as she came on, all beaming smile and shiny guitar. Martha's mother Kate accompanied her on piano most of the night, which was something special in itself. Martha's voice was SO beautiful at it's crackling, soaring best - although she confessed to having some bug. At one point she asked for assistance from the audience, for a guy to restring her second guitar, which some volunteer dutifully did as she belted out another song. Of course it's difficult to remember each track, and I'm not at the fan level where I'd sit jotting down the running order on a piece of paper throughout the night. She pretty much nailed the whole album, plus a couple of new tracks where she forgot the lyrics once. She sang harmony for Kate on the song 'Mendocino', which is so bittersweet, I think. Halfway through 'Bring Me Back My Heart' with Kate taking the harmony this time, Martha's period kicked in, at which point she stopped singing and shared the news with her audience. I know St. George's is intimate, but that's taking it too far ;0) That aside, Martha has a great rapport with her fans. She sang 'Dis Quand Reviendras Tu' with such contagious passion and enthusiasm. An utterly entertaining and charming evening. |

Yes, the days of the quick and easy Martha booking may have passed....
You're on Prince Edward Island? Ha. We have a Victoria Playhouse very close to me on Vancouver Island. Polarized Playhouses!!
You all remember that Martha will have a (hopefully) bawdy Sea Shanty on the latest Hal Willner/Johnny Depp project double cd set, right??
I grew up listening to Nina Simone and Judy Collins sing "Pirate Jenny", so.... I'm looking forward to it. |

Chris is maried. They've established that during the saturday show in bloomsbury, when someone from the crowd shouted "I love him" and then Kate (or Ana?) said "well, he's maried" and the "and he lives in Paris", as if living in Paris is a horrible thing
and then on Sunday Chris was chit-chatting with Martha about something, I think It was before Bring back my heart, on which he sang Rufus's part, an he said something like "you're great/gorgeous/whatever" I dont remember in which context, but the audience went "Awww!" and Martha said to him, that he should stop saying that, coz he's married or she'll jump him later on.
And ... Sometime last year there was an interview with Ricky of Kaiser Chief where he said, that he fancies Martha very much, but when he was talking to her a few days before that interwiev he found out that she's seing someone. |
